"No Deep fat, No Steak and Cream Pies..."

So was Woody Allen unintentionally correct? ;-)
I've always thought this film would prove to be right!

Bean
Yep! So should we be replacing margarine, and all hydrogenated vegetable fats with good old Butter and Lard?
Apparently yes. Also full fat whole milk, whole natural yogurt, nothing low fat or sugar-filled in fact. All tastes so much better and fills you up for longer :0)
Have a look at a thread from back in the summer called 'So what do we think about butter' ...
This clip is in Last Chance's recent thread: resources-links-f3/enjoy-eating-saturated-fats-they-re-good-for-you-t10796.html

The whole saturated fat clip was good, but did you know there is no distinction between simple and complex carbs - they are equally bad for your health?
Isn't that the film where his character can't believe all his friends are dead because the all ate organic brown rice?
Err there are carbs in fruit and veggies and I am not giving them up, meat would go first IMHO
I loved that film too.

@gillymary its all a matter of balance. I love my fats, but also want my vitamins. So I pile on the greens when eating. I only have one fruit a day normally for the vitamins that are highest in fruit. You also need your 'fat soluble' vitamins as well. The balance has been seesawedthe wrong way for a long time, 20 years at least.
Oh I agree about balance but it is a hot summer here and a freshly home prepared fruit salad of papaya, blue berries, a couple of strawbs and a shared small banana are definitely staying on my menu on a non fast day. I am switching from carnivore to plant based diet and as I do I eat from instinct. My body at present says eat fruit. My fast days swim with bullet coffee fatty enough.

My greatest cause for the weight gain has been sugar and wheat to which I now know, I have been addicted. My go too breakfast was 2 slices of toasted seeded bread butter and vegemite on one slice and home made marmalade on the other. Now I have lost the 13 kgs I am where I was as a young woman and just needing to tone. As a matter of fact I am healthier and fitter than that then smoking thinner person.

But balance to me is moderation, I well remember my Atkins diet days and I want to keep on keeping on with this way of eating and not fall off the wagon. If I ate the fat as some are suggesting here I would not continue. Touch wood I have sustained 11 months of twice weekly fasting no colds or flu. I listen to my body, now working on cutting out the wheat and reducing the sugar and with IF and FIT that's is enough for me for now. I will observe how others fare over the course
I wrote a long response here, but my computer ate it. I'll try to remember what I said.

I toyed with the idea of going low carb again, but if I cut anything from my diet I really think it needs to be processed food. I like Michael Pollan's mantra: eat real food. The second part of it is "mostly plants". I don't see anything wrong with meat, but if I were to get the balance off, I would rather it be towards plants than meat.

Also, I think this labeling of whole classes of edible substances (macronutrients?) as good or bad is overly simplistic. Surely the form they are in matters. The fructose in a piece of fruit is not the same as the fructose in coke, nor, I imagine, is the saturated fat in a steak vs. that in a donut.
