Two day diet by Jenni Murray
09 Feb 2013, 09:30
Great article thank you.
It's a pity we couldn't see the leaflet about it.
I live abroad and although we can buy the paper we don't get the supplements.
As a breast cancer survivor of 2 1/2 years, it's my main reason for following this WOE.
After the menopause when your ovaries have stopped producing oestrogen, your fat cells produce it, hence the importance of keeping our body fat down.
The evidence is becoming more and more compelling, and interesting to see that this research is being done in the uk by another medical facility. Great news.x
I suspect this'll be the two days a week of intermittent carbohydrate restriction <40g/day, outlined in this poster

"At that time, you were allowed to eat only 600 calories on the two fasting days. Today, it’s been adapted so there’s no calorie-counting, just a list of mainly protein-rich foods which you eat on two consecutive days.

For the rest of the week, you eat a filling, enjoyable Mediterranean diet with olive oil, fish, fruit, poultry, wholemeal pasta, brown rice, vegetables, potatoes, occasional red meat and wholemeal bread, all the while just keeping an eye on the size of your portions."
Yes this is the forthcoming book flagged up in this earlier thread. Jenni Murray sounds very convinced and she hasn't even started! And obviously the Daily Mail are bigging it up to boost their sales.

I notice that Dr M isn't mentioned and I detect a faint whiff in the piece of 'this is the real scientific 5:2'! It will be interesting to see what is proposed by these respected scientists (Harvie & Howell). I do hope all of these IF approaches can live under one roof - and in this forum too!
Harvie is winning 2-0 in the clinical studies and I suspect the interests of Genesis UK are behind the management / timing of this - I think Harvie's intermittent carb reduction study has only been published as a paper (corrections welcome) perhaps to facilitate its commercialisation.

They must be miffed at missing the New Year diet rush and being pipped to the post by Mosley (who himself was pre-empted by others).

Yes, it would be nice if they can all co-exist, but big charities are often uncomfortable bed fellows :-)
I used to manage property and the hardest building was one shared by charities as they all fought their own corner fiercely.

It wasn't as if MM didn't actually go talk to "proper" scientists and then synthesised a workable approach.

I think, as is the nature of diets, everyone will do it how it suits them and even if they start off with strict guidelines, people drift. No two WW members eat the same diet, even with lots of guidance and the same will hold for IF.
